I recently receive the book Sewn Hats by Carla Hegeman Crim from Wiley for review. Oh how I love this book! Well it's not secret I think Carla is one amazing pattern writer and she does not disappoint in providing us a well written hat making book.
Her chapter titled Materials, Methods, Sizing, and Illustrations Guide is comprehensive in preparing you with basic skills and information needed for sewing all the hats in the book. Just like her individual patterns, Carla takes time to illustrate all the essential steps needed to create these fun hats. The patterns are not included in the book but instead available here on Wiley's website. I like that all I have to do is print the pattern and sew! No tracing! No worn pattern sheets! So innovative. So Carla.
The hats themselves are not only designed by Carla but also by many other of your favorite pattern designers in the field today. Oh so many cute options available! Here are a few of my favorites.
I am loving the Extra-Extra Newskid Cap by Karen LePage and so is my daughter. She couldn't wait to put it on and didn't take it off until it was time to get ready for bed. The fabrics I used are Jennifer Paganelli's amazing Crazy Love and Super Fly.
Melissa Stramel contributed a cute Chef's Hat. I like that this hat has a knit band and comes in toddler and adult size. With the knit band you should be able to fit any head size. What's not to like about that!?
I am loving this little top hat by Heather Niziolek and Carla Hegeman Crim! Being that it is one size fits all this little hat is really limitless in its uses. You have to see the baby with this hat. I am not going to show you, you need to get the book and see the preciousness for yourself. Be ready to 'Awwww!!!'
Well these are just a sampling of some of my favorites. Jennifer Paganelli contributed a flower hat that you are going to flip over. Patty Young has a cute sun hat. And Dolin O'Shea contributed a very elegant pillbox hat. The list goes on and on, you have thirty five hat designs to chose from! And do not think this is a book for girls and women, there are patterns for boys and men too.
I think Sewn Hats is a very well written book that provide the individual with a plethora of designs for all ages and both genders. You can fill a trunk with original play hats for a child or put the finishing touches on a brides and grooms party. The options are endless.
There is a giveaway blog tour going on for this book. You can find more information at: www.scientificseamstress.blogspot.com.
Have a beautiful day. Go buy Sewn Hats at Amazon.com and make a hat!
