Meet Shannon!

I am happy to have Shannon Winters here as my guest! Talented and sweet, Shannon and I go way back to the beginning of Sis Boom pattern tester days. Okay I think she was a tester before me but way back enough right!? Right! Native Texan and loves Sis Boom and bluebonnets, we were destine to become friends.Check out the beauty she has made from her copy of Happy Home. Gasp! Elizabeth Rose fabric!! Take it away Shannon!!!

I'm so thrilled to share in this blog hop with so many talented sewists! Like most, my experience with all things Sis Boom is always amazing - so I'm very happy to share it with others!

One of my favorite projects in the new Happy Home book was Rachel's Ruffle Pillow (pp. 38-41). The generous palette allows for the showcasing of the gorgeous Sis Boom prints! The feminine ruffle allows for perfect contrast, or use the same fabric as your focal fabric, it's completely your choice!

For my pillow I used my all time favorite Sis Boom fabric - Elizabeth Rose in rose as my focal fabric. This fabric is now out of print, and I've been hoarding this last tiny, little piece to showcase this gorgeousness! This was the PERFECT project to showcase my love!

I cut all of my fabrics as instructed. The instructions were very straight forward and were very easy to follow!

TIP: Before cutting, ensure that your fabric is lined up in the middle of the print. In this picture, I have done just that, and you will notice that the middle of the print, is not in the middle of the fabric. Double checking the middle of the print BEFORE cutting, will save a lot of frustration later!

All cut and ready to go! Pink - back of pillow - pink pattern, front of pillow, aqua, ruffles.

TIP: Though it is not shown in this picture, one thing that was very helpful to me was cutting one additional ruffle strip (so I began with a total of 4 pieces instead of 3). I do this because I'm, ahem... lazy. I sew all of the pieces end to end as indicated in the instructions, and ruffle the strip of fabric. However, the extra strip of fabric saves me a bit of time in having to make sure that the ruffles are stretched out around the pillow exactly at the right length. Instead, I just pin the ruffle around the pillow and when I get to the point that I began pinning ruffles, I just whack off the extra. Easy peasy.

I timed myself in making this beautiful pillow. From first stitch to inserting the pillow... are you ready for it... 45 minutes! Yep! EASY, FAST, and GORGEOUS! Most of that time was spent pinning the ruffle, and taking out pins at the end.

SOOOO worth less than an hour of time! Now I have a beautiful pillow to rest my back upon whilst I sew! This beauty will find it's permanent residence in my sewing chair - where I can enjoy its frilly goodness and smile with glee each and every time I see it!

If you're looking for the perfect, frilly, girly accessory for your home - THIS is the project for you!

Sew one up today!

Thank you Shannon! Your pillow is gorgeous. What a lovely way to rest your back, while sewing no less! Woo hoo! Love it!

  2. Great tip about centering the motif. This is the detail that takes a project from 'nice' to 'Incredible!' Even when people don't notice that they're noticing. Great job!
