GIVEAWAY TODAY!!!!!
Woo hoo!!! It's my turn on the virtual book tour to give away a copy of Patty Young's new book, sewing modkid style, Modern Threads for the Cool Girl. Don't you love that title!? So sassy and fun just like cutie Patty! Love that girl! This book features the cayootest 20 knit fabric projects that live up to their book title namesake. Something for the girly girl and the active girl and everything in between girl including tweens! Patty draws her inspiration from her daughters who happen to have different style senses and isn't that wonderful for us!? She really gets our girls and their different style interests and creates the cutest modern patterns for us to enjoy! Have you sewn from her individual patterns? If you haven't you need to because they are so darling and easy to follow. I started out learning to sew clothing off her patterns, but that's another post!
If you have been wanting to start sewing with knits but don't know where to start, I highly encourage you to buy this book. I had wanted to sew with knits for quite some time and once Patty came out with her first line of knits I became a googling maniac trying to learn about different types of knits, how to sew the seam etc. Thankfully I had several friends to help me as well. How I wish this book had been around when I started because Patty covers so many of the basic questions I had in the beginning. Would have saved me so much time! Her book is a good springboard in to sewing with knits. The projects are so quick, simple and of course cute, you will be coming back to these patterns time and time again.
Here are the projects I sewed from her book over our Spring Break.
This is the Tie Strap Halter with the Bubble Skirt. I used a campan knit for the lining on the halter. This was my first try at sewing with ruffle fabric. You have to make sure you pin the ruffles facing downward otherwise when you sew up the seams you might accidentally sew the ruffle flipped up. The skirt has a elastic waist band. It has a swishiness my daughter found so fun. It's the ultimate girly knit skirt.
I also made Leggings from the book using the ruffle fabric. My daughter HAD to pair the ruffled pieces together. Quite the ruffle fest if you ask me! I made the leggings to go under little skirts and such. The only modification I would make with ruffle fabric leggings is to make a separate waistband out of a thin knit or even a woven and attach it to the top of the leggings. You will achieve a much cleaner looking waistband. The pattern in the book is for typical knit/stretch type fabrics. I just had to be difficult and use ruffle fabric! =D
This is the Tie Strap Halter and the A-Line Gored Skirt. I think I could make a hundred different versions of these! The skirt is a great project for using up scraps of knits, many of those pieces are scraps that I had to dig out of every nook and cranny of her playroom. She caught me on the last scrap and I had to put it back, her baby was getting cold...
Finally here are the Yoga Pants. So soft and comfy. I would love to have my own pair! In that fabric! She has the cutest quilt in the book using this knit as well as it's coordinates. You need to go on the knit hunt, you are going to want to make that quilt!
So if you don't win the book, oh SOB!, don't dilly dally and make sure you BUY Patty's book. You can purchase it on Amazon.com for a great price. Don't forget to leave a review of her book on Amazon!
